Change the World, Start in Newark

Interested in making a difference in the city, but not sure where to start? You may want to consider serving on a non-profit board. The city is host to over one thousand non-profit organizations where your skills might help.
Leadership Newark is sponsoring training for Newark residents interested in giving their time, energy and talents to a good cause. This is a very cool opportunity for residents who want to address challenges in their community by getting engaged with civic process. The two-day course will teach you how non-profit boards function and help you evaluate where best you can devote your resources.

Nonprofit Board Service Training

Often, city residents are not aware of the opportunities that exist for them to improve their communities by participating as members of a governing board of a nonprofit, community-based organization.

Community residents may not understand what is expected of members of an organization’s governing board, or may not know how to connect with an organization that is a good match for their skills and interests.

Yet they possess the desire, ambition, skill and commitment needed to support the many efforts that are present in communities in which they live or work.

This Board Service Training will:

  • Prepare and empower civic-minded people in the city of Newark to effectively lead change within their communities;
  • Strengthen the working partnership between non-profits and community residents;
  • Offer Community resident insight to nonprofit board decision-making
  • Help potential participants to develop and plan policies and procedures for particular governing boards and organizations.

Courses will be held on June 21st and 28th, from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

  1. This is an wonderful opportunity for residents of interest of each county to get involed & help bring about change within our communities. I’m not sure this is coming to Union County but I’m a former resident of “Brick City” and hope to have the opportunity to serve.
