Newark man is shot and killed in central business district
Yikes, I was half a dozen blocks from here about three hours beforehand.
Marquis Green, was found at 9:41 p.m. at the intersection of Washington Street and Bank Street with “multiple gunshot wounds,” Essex County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Paul Loriquet said.
Green was pronounced dead at the scene, a couple blocks south of the Rutgers-Newark campus.
Authorities have not released any information about the circumstances of the shooting, or if they have identified any suspects.

What will become of us, the law abiding family residents of Newark? Will we become over run by gangs? Police not only need to get tougher, they need to tear themselves away from the precious Arena and start making a presence in the street. I support Mayor Booker and what he’s trying to do- I honestly believe he is a step in the right direction- but until matters like this are taken care of we are never going to take a step forward, and the rest of the nation will always look upon us with disdain.
