3 killed in Newark in separate attacks
The Ledger details two additional deaths in addition to the shooting on North 11th street covered earlier. One of the two stabbing incidents occurred at Market and Broad at 8:45 AM. A suspect found with what is presumed to be the murder weapon is is in police custody.
The first killing happened at 4 a.m. Sunday, when officers found a woman suffering from a stab wound in her chest, police said. The woman — whom police have not identified — was taken to University Hospital, where she died a short time later.
That death was followed a few hours later by a fatal stabbing at Broad and Market streets. The 8:45 a.m. attack ended with Gerald Mathews, 40, of Newark, with a wound on his upper torso, police said. He died at University Hospital later that morning.
